DIY Homemade Bath Toys for Toddlers

07/27/13 | Homemade, Kids Crafts and Coloring

Bath time is a special time in our house. My babies love it! Bath time is always more fun when you have creative toys to play with.  They don’t have to be expensive toys purchased at a store either.  Usually homemade toys are my kids favorite bath time toys anyway.

Here are a few of my kids favorite DIY Homemade bath toys along with a few friends ideas too from other kid blogs.  Check out their blogs (linked in the description of their post) and like them on facebook and pinterest.  You won’t regret it!  They have great ideas.
This first toy is not homemade, but it’s only about $1.50 at target.  One thing worth purchasing.  A watering can:
He loves filling it up with a variety of scoops and containers and then watching the water trickle out onto his hand.
-OR-  You can make your own by poking holes into the bottom of a Tupperware or Gladware container like this one:

I’m sure if you are a mommy, you probably have some spare craft foam sheets hanging around your house.  I did.  I scoured my preschool boxes and found some scraps.  I cut out my sons name and he sticks it to the wall.  I say the letters as he places them on the wall.  Then I put them in order to spell his name and he repeats after me…
…K…A…D…E… Kade.
He’ll learn his name in no time.  Repetition is the best!
This one is not homemade, but I’m sure you have some of these hanging around your house:
A Funnel.  I used these for THIS project.
He loves filling it up and watching the water pour out.
Here are some other ideas:
-Use craft sticks to float in the water and make rafts out of with duck tape
-Use water bottles taped together as a raft for barbies or action figures
Check out this idea for up-cycling a milk jug from Mamma OT.
Using PVC pipes in the bathtub or water table would create hours of fun!
Check out this idea from the Fun a Day blog:
I have never thought about adding ice to the bath, but what a good way to work on fine motor skills than trying to catch a piece of ice in the bathtub!
Check out this idea from Sugar Aunts!
Here is a long list of ideas from Child Fun for use with sensory tables.  There are a few great ideas that can be used in the bathtub too!

When my kids are a little older and can “take care” of them selves in the tub, but still need supervision, I clean the bathroom as my child takes a bath.  Killing two birds with one stone.

Enjoy bath time!
