Monster High Dolls Tutorials- Curl Hair, Make a Laptop & Potion Bottles

08/28/13 | Kids Crafts and Coloring

I was wondering if my daughter was going to like the Monster High Dolls.  They are creative, and cute.  I also haven’t found one that is dressed immodestly yet.  They have short skirts, but they have no mid-drifts showing, so I thought it would be ok for her to play with them. She was playing at a friends house a week ago and she got hooked on them. Her friend had a ton of them and she fell in love with them.

So naturally, my daughter had to be creative about her hair and accessories.  She learned on her own how to curl her hair and make a laptop and potion bottles for them.  My daughter is 10 BTW.

So first we’ll show you how to curl her hair.  This obviously could be done with any doll 🙂

You will need two mugs, water (hot and cold),  tin foil and a fan. NOTE: This is intended for “tween” aged kids because of the hot water

Make rectangles (about 2″x4″) out of the tin foil.  Section off a chunk of hair and place it in the tin foil going up the long way.  Fold the two long sides of the tin foil over on the hair and roll up the tin foil.  Continue until the whole head is done.  Like so: (note: my daughter used straight pins to hold the tin foil closed tight, I don’t think that is necessary though)

Now dip the head of the doll in the hot water for about 3 minutes.  Then dip it the cold water for 2 minutes.  Remove the doll from the water and place on a towel.  Point a fan on the dolls head and let dry.

Once dry, remove the tin foil and re-shape the curls while the doll is laying flat:

Keep the doll under the fan until hair is completely dry:

My daughter didn’t want her curls really tight, she just wanted her hair to curl under at the ends, so we didn’t wait too long.

Now onto the Monster High Homemade Laptop:

Here is a video from Simple Kids Crafts.com on how to make the laptop.

You can download the blank laptop template HERE.

Or you can use this one I made with some of the dolls images in them:  (Just right click and save the image)

Now for the potion bottles.  So simple!  Just find some beads that you like.  You will need hot glue and needle nose pliers.  Holding the bead that will be the bottom of the bottle with the pliers, put a dot of glue on top.  Carefully add the top of the bottle and let dry.  EASY!

Enjoy!
