September is a special month. We get to go to school, the weather changes, we get out our sweaters and we want to smell pumpkins, cinnamon and apples.

Something new and exciting for the little ones is the first day of Preschool. They get really excited and nervous. Sometimes reading some stories can help calm their little nerves. Whether it’s at home with mommy or at preschool, these books will be a great addition to getting ready for school and feeling comfortable about being there.  As a preschool teacher, I have chosen my favorite books that I read with my students.  Here they are:

What to Expect at Preschool (What to Expect Kids)
With the help of Angus, the lovable Answer Dog, best-selling author Heidi Murkoff extends a hand to children and parents as they tackle life’s first experiences together
The Night Before Preschool
A cute story about a boy excited to go to preschool and meeting a new friend that makes him even more excited about going back then next day!
Excuse Me!: A Little Book of Manners
You all know preschool is all about learning social skills, this book is great for that!
The Busy Little Squirrel (Classic Board Books)
I love the illustrations in this book!

This Is the Way We Go to School: A Book About Children Around the World

A cute book about children around the world going to school.
The Kissing Hand
This is the greatest book for kids that have separation anxiety.  Mommy leaves a kiss on baby’s hand to keep it with him all day long. (One of my favorite books!)
I Love You All Day Long
Owen’s anxious question prompts this heartwarming, comforting tale of how a parent’s love stays with a child whether they are together or apart — all day long.
Maisy Goes to Preschool: A Maisy First Experiences Book
Preschool for Maisy means a day filled with friends and things to do, from the time she hangs her coat on a special peg to the time she says good-bye.
Curious George’s First Day of School
It’s the first day of school, and Curious George has been invited to Mr. Apple’s class to be a special helper!
Preschool Day Hooray!
What’s a day in preschool like? Come inside and see!
Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes
Pete the Cat is back—and this time he’s rocking in his school shoes. Pete discovers the library, the lunchroom, the playground, and lots of other cool places at school.
My First Day at Nursery School
“I want my mommy!” is this hesitant little girl’s response to her first day at nursery school. But after she gets involved with glue-y projects, singing and dancing, painting, game playing and meeting new friends, she gradually changes her mind about nursery school.

Llama Llama Misses Mama
It’s Llama Llama’s first day of preschool! And Llama Llama’s mama makes sure he’s ready. They meet the teachers. See the other children. Look at all the books and games. But then it’s time for Mama to leave. And suddenly Llama Llama isn’t so excited anymore. Will Mama Llama come back?
Mouse’s First Day of School
One bright morning, Mouse discovers a whole new world.
There are colors to paint with:  red, yellow, blue  and letters to spell with: A B C
and best of all, new friends to play with! Wherever could they be?

I hope you enjoy these books as much as we do in our preschool room!  What are your favorite September books for your kids?Have a great September!
