Homemade Orange Cream Sherbet

07/17/14 | Desserts and Treats, Recipes, Summer

Every 4th of July we like to make homemade ice cream or sherbet. It’s been a fun family tradition we’ve done for a few years. I love to try new ice cream recipes each year and I especially love the fact that the ice cream is all natural and there are no preservatives in it.

Homemade Orange Cream Sherbet

This Orange Cream Sherbet is easy to make and you’ll love the texture of it.  It’s a little more involved than just plain old ice cream, but really worth it!

Orange Cream Sherbet

  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • zest from 2 oranges
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups orange juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups cream
  • 1 envelope powdered gelatin
  • 2 eggs

Pour the cold water into a large bowl and sprinkle the gelatin on tip. 3/4 cup of sugar and the hot water ans stir until dissolved. Then add the orange zest and orange and lemon juices. Put in the canister of the ice cream maker and freeze until mushy.

Beat the cream until stiff and add the rest of the sugar and salt. Separate the egg whites from the yolks and beat until stiff. Beat the yolks until thick and lemon colored. Then add both to the cream. Mix with frozen mixture and continue freezing. When soft serve consistency, add to containers and freeze in the freezer.

I hope you try this yummy sherbet. You’re family will love it!
