Homemade Candy Cane Cream Cheese Mints

12/22/14 | Christmas, Desserts and Treats, Homemade, Recipes

I love cream cheese mints. They are so good and surprisingly easy to make. They only require 4 ingredients and whip up in no time. I like the marbled effect these Candy Cane Cream Cheese Mints have. They are very festive for the Christmas Season.

  • 8 oz. cream cheese softened
  • 2 pounds powdered sugar + more for dusting
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • red food coloring

In a food processor or stand mixer, pulse or beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Slowly add the powdered sugar until all is incorporated and the mixture is smooth. Add the peppermint extract and mix again. Divide the dough in half and work in the red food coloring to one half of the dough.

On a work surface, sprinkle more powdered sugar to keep the dough from sticking. Make a long “snake” out of both colors of dough side by side and cut them into pieces, about an inch long.

Pick up a red and white piece and roll them together in the palm of your hand, forming a ball. Place on parchment paper and flatten with a fork.

Continue with the rest of the dough until finished.

Let dry on the counter top for about 2 hours. The mints will harden. I flipped mine halfway through drying so the bottom would have a chance to dry. Refrigerate them until ready to serve or give away to neighbors 😉

We found these cute containers at the Dollar Tree store. I added a crumpled up piece of white tissue paper to the bottom of the container, so they looked more full. This recipe makes about 120 mints.
