How to Clean Your Stinky Blender Bottle

01/05/15 | cleaning tips, Health, How To

Now that I’ve been exercising regularly, I have been using my Blender Bottle more often. I learned from my personal trainer that I should have 1/2 scoop of protein before my workout and a whole scoop of protein after my workout. I love to use my Blender Bottle to drink my shakes. No lumps and it makes the shake frothy. But, sometimes I forget to wash it out, which can make for a very stinky surprise in the morning. Unfortunately, most BPA-free plastics (which Blender Bottles are made of) are prone to retaining odors if not cleaned regularly. So here is how to clean your Blender Bottle when it has an odor that just won’t go away.

First of all, if you don’t have a blender bottle and you are mixing powdered drinks, you really need to get one. There are all different types to choose from. I love my Mini Blender Bottle Single 20oz for the before and after workouts.

And these new BlenderBottle ProStak System with Bottle and Twist N’ Lock Storage are so cconvenientwhen you can’t drink your protein right away and need to carry your vitamins with you too.

And I love the look of these BlenderBottle SportMixers with their easy to hold hook handle.

Now how to clean them when they get stinky  . . .

I have found that filling the Blender Bottle almost all the way up with warm water and adding a few teaspoons of bleach and letting it sit over night is the best way for me to remove odors.

Here are some other ideas if that doesn’t work for you:

    • Fill the bottle with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar and allow to sit overnight (with the flip cap open).
    • Sprinkle a piece of newspaper with water, or place several drops of vanilla extract on a couple of paper towels. Crumple the newspaper or paper towels and place inside the bottle. Screw on the lid and let sit for 24 hours.
    • Place damp coffee grounds inside the bottle, seal, and allow to sit overnight.

Enjoy your workout!

~Annette
