Red, White and Blue Slushes for the 4th of July

06/28/16 | 4th of July, Desserts and Treats, Holidays, Recipes

Red White and Blue Slushes

I love to make red white and blue treats for the 4th of July and this year I came up with a really cute one! I make homemade slurpees with ice, sugar, water and Kool-Aid during the summer months for my kids to help save money on trips to the gas stations for treats. So I thought it would be fun to make them into an Independence Day Float! How fun!

I’ve made a video tutorial for you to learn how to make these, because I personally think they are so much easier to follow and they are more fun, right?

So here’s the video, and scroll down for the recipe!

Red, White and Blue Slushes for the 4th of July

  • 2 cup water
  • 8 cups ice + more
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 packet blue Kool-Aid and 1 packet red Kool-Aid
  • 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream

Let’s start by making the blue slush. Add ONE cup water, FOUR cups ice, and HALF-CUP sugar to the blender. Sprinkle the blue Kool-Aid packet into the blender. Mix on high until well blended. Add more ice until you reach the desired consistency. Empty into a pitcher and put in the refrigerator to keep cool. Now repeat the directions with the red Kool-Aid packet. Addint ONE cup water, FOUR cups ice, and a HALF-CUP sugar to the blender. Add the red Kool-Aid mix and blend on high until well blended. Add more ice until you reach the desired consistency. Spoon some of the blue slush into the bottom of serving cups. Scoop about 1/2 cup ice cream on top of the blue slush. Spoon some of the red slush on top and add a straw. You’re done! Enjoy!
