How to get rid of lice

07/27/09 | How To, Reviews

I know, YUCK!! We were on vacation at my mom’s house along with my other sister and her kids and as we were walking out the door for the long drive home, (the car was all packed and everything) my sister sat down to fix my nieces hair and said “AHH, what’s crawling in your hair!?” Turns out it was lice, and since we had been sharing brushes, I figured we all had it to, or at least were gonna get it! So, we unpacked the car and off to Wal-Mart we went to buy the stuff we needed. After asking the pharmacist which brand works best, and $160 later, we were set. (of course we had to buy snacks and pizza’s)

This is what you do if you ever get lice:

-buy NIX. It works!

-buy the bedding spray for the matteresses, pillows, and chairs (that are not leather) and spray them until they are soaked then turn on a fan and open the windows so it dries quicker

-strip down all bedding and start washing them in the highest heat possible, then dry them on high. After they are done drying, dry them on high for at least 20 more minutes.

-take all toys and other things that cannot be laundered or dry cleaned and seal them in garbage bags and leave them in your garage for 4 weeks.

-get your kids in swimming suits and follow the directions on the box for shampooing their hair with NIX

-also use the lice gel that you can buy at wal-mart right before you comb through their hair.

-shampoo again with NIX 7 day’s later and look for lice again.

I am in the process of doing all the laundry today, but I am glad we got it taken care of before I made it to my own house! Now I don’t feel as though I have to disinfect everything in my own home! I got lucky!
