Crocheted Toy Bucket

02/14/14 | cleaning tips, Crafts, Kids Crafts and Coloring

I love to crochet and I’m always looking for new projects to do. I came across this idea and I thought it was the most brilliant thing to turn my vinegar container into. A toy bucket for my son’s Legos.

Crocheted toy bucket from Tips From a Typical Mom.
Start out by cutting the top off any plastic container. I’m the most horrible straight cutter when it comes to plastic or cardboard, so I’m glad that the yarn covers up my crooked cuts!
Then using a hole punch, punch holes all around the top of the container about 1/2 inch apart from each other. If the plastic is too thick to use a hole punch, use a drill wide enough for a crochet hook to fit through.
I used Bernat Softee Chunky yarn for mine because I wanted it to look full.
Start by single crocheting all around the top. Next round: 2 single crochets in each single crochet.
Now, I don’t have an exact pattern. I just winged it! So you’ll have to decide how tall you want it and how wide you want it at the top. I did 3 single crochets then a double so that it didn’t close in too quickly. Then did 5 single crochets then a double, then single all around until it closed in.
Once I got to the top I made a chain for the handle. It was 40 chains. then I eyeballed where it should join and single crocheted to the other side and repeated. It was trial and error until I liked how it looked.
You can see this post here from Filth Wizardry that might help you out a little bit more.
Now I’m off to find more containers to make! This was fun~
Enjoy,
Annette
