{DIY} PVC Pipe & Foam Sword

08/12/13 | Crafts, Kids Crafts and Coloring

My 8 year old is a Cub Scout. That means every month we go to Pack Meeting. They are usually fun, the boys get awards, we play games, we eat treats. But last month was particularly fun because everyone got to make a family shield, decorate goblets for homemade root beer, and make these fun PVC Pipe and Swim Noodle swords.

All the boys and family members played forever out in the parking lot with these!  They loved them!  They all continued the sword fighting even when we got home out in the field beside our house with the neighborhood kids.  These were so much fun and SO easy to make.  Here is how they did it:

1. Start with a 1″ PVC pipe the length you want your sword and a cap for the bottom of the pipe

2. Cut a cheap pool noodle (from the dollar store) about 4 inches longer than the PVC pipe (you want that extra foam sticking out over the pipe to cushion the blow!)

3. Using foam sheets, cut a rectangle about 1/3 the size of the pipe and cut two 1″ holes in each end to slide onto the PVC pipe.

First put the cap on the bottom of the pipe, then slide on the finger guard (foam sheet) then the pool noodle and you’re done!

Now go and have tons of fun!
