What is Dress for Success and How Can I Help?

10/23/15 | Family, Family Activities, Fashion, Sponsored

“I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity Fair Lingerie. I received product samples to facilitate my review and compensation to thank me for my participation.”

When I was a little girl, I dreamed about the day that I would be a mom. I couldn’t wait to meet my husband and start a family. I was a little naïve. I thought I would just have babies, stay and home, and take care of them. Life is now exactly how I imagined it when I was younger, but it was a long road here. Detours happened in my life and I realized that being an adult was a lot harder than I thought. I worked from the time I was old enough to have a job and ever since then I think I’ve only NOT worked a few years of my adult life, when my kids were really small.

My husband does a good job supporting our family, but I always feel the need to contribute. Not only that, I really NEED to work for my own personal sanity. I love feeling like I’ve accomplished a little something more than cleaning the house and keeping the kids happy all day long. That’s why my jobs have been so important to me. I have been very blessed in my life to hold jobs that allow me to bring my kids along, or work from home. I have only had to have a babysitter for about 9 months of my child raising years. I’ve been a dance teacher, preschool teacher, photographer and blogger. All professions that are family friendly. But I realize that most women are not as lucky as I am to have a husband to support them and/or a job to keep them off the streets. That’s why I am a strong supporter of Dress for Success®.

As you know I am an ambassador for Vanity Fair and they did their amazing BOGOGO sale. “Lifting women up!” You could lift yourself up by getting a new bra, then you’d get one free and Vanity Fair would give one to the Dress for Success® program to help a woman in need.

So, what is Dress for Success®? Dress for Success® is an international not-for-profit organization. They provide disadvantaged women independence by providing them with the tools they need to get the job they want and need. Dress for Success® provides professional attire so these women look their best when heading to a job interview. They want to help women thrive in work and in life. Not only does Dress for Success® help women secure a job, but they help them remain employed and help them progress in their positions. Each career center pairs clients with staff members who work one on one with them. About 70% of women that Dress for Success serves are mothers.
